Chia is an herbaceous plant of the sage family native to Mexico and cultivated for its edible seeds since pre-Columbian times.

Since the late 90s, these seeds have attracted the attention of nutritionists for their high lipid content containing a high proportion of omega-3s.

Chia seeds are a good source of calcium and phosphorus, as well as dietary fiber and manganese.
